Microsoft Licensing, GP and IQ Technology Solutions have announced that they will be providing two (2) local non-profit charitable organizations with the opportunity to receive IT Makeovers valued at $15,000 each. The Northern Nevada Non-Profit IT Makeover will provide the selected non-profit organizations a contribution of $15,000 to invest toward key information technology solutions provided by Microsoft Licensing and IQ. The selected non-profit agencies will be able to use the IT Makeover campaign funding for products and services such as software, hardware and technical consulting as well as implementation services and IT management supplied by IQ Technology Solutions engineers and technicians. Microsoft Licensing will also provide Microsoft software for use by the selected organizations. 2009 marks the second year of the IT Makeover.
"Microsoft Licensing is very pleased to join IQ Technology Solutions in bringing the IT Makeover to the Reno/Tahoe community," stated Mary Ellen Smith, general manager of Microsoft Licensing, GP. "We realize that the benefits of technology are as important to non-profits as it is to other organizations. IQ Solutions is a key partner in our Reno operations, and it's a great step forward to give back to our local community together as we recognize the great support these agencies provide to all of us. Good deeds deserve good IT!"
IQ's president, Steve Cerocke added, "Non-profit organizations are playing a critical role in meeting the challenges that the weak economy is creating for everyone. They are doing this while being affected by declining contributions, increased community need and escalating costs. We see a real need to contribute, and by using our expertise in information technology we feel that we can make a difference. Our goal is to provide a charitable organization the information technology expertise and tools that will help them reach their goals."
Two local 501(c)3 registered, non-profit organizations will be selected to each receive a $15,000 contribution based on an essay describing their needs, their mission and objectives and how their organization would use the IT Makeover contribution to better serve our region. The final selection will be made by a panel of local business leaders. Each submission will be evaluated based upon the objectives of the IT Makeover campaign, and two local organizations will be chosen to receive the $15,000 IT Makeover contribution.
All registered non-profit charitable organizations serving the Reno/Tahoe basin are encouraged to submit an application to become eligible for consideration. The IT Makeover applications are due by November 30th, 2009. Information packets and applications will be sent to local organizations. Additionally, application forms may be obtained online at www.IQisIT.com/itmakeover or by contacting Steve Cerocke at 775-352-2301 or by email at steve@IQisIT.com.
2009 is the second year of the Northern Nevada IT Makeover. In 2008, two local non-profit agencies were selected from more than 55 applications to each receive $15,000 in the inaugural IT Makeover sponsored by IQ Technology Solutions and Microsoft Licensing, GP. The 2008 recipients were the Crisis Call Center and Friends of Academy for Career Education (FACE).
Friends of ACE High School used its IT Makeover Funds to add new computers and upgrade other pieces of their network infrastructure. A new UPS was added along with new switches, cables and network cards. New Microsoft Office software was installed on seven new computers, which allowed the school to bring a science lab online that that would not have been possible without the funding. The upgrade project has also provided ACE with a more robust and reliable network environment.
Crisis Call Center used its IT Makeover funding to improve its network systems and enhance its operations. Instead of installing a new server system, Crisis Call Center was able to implement an online solution from Microsoft that did away with the need for new hardware and lowered their network support costs. The online solution also included an implementation of Microsoft SharePoint that has added new capabilities to the organization and "changed the way they work."
